Beats Not Connecting? Causes and Fixes

This guide covers Beats headphones, Beats earbuds and Beats Pill that won't connect or pair at all: they're missing from the Bluetooth list, show no light, or fail halfway through pairing. Beats that connect and then drop out are a different fault with a separate guide, linked at the end. For every other Beats fault, start at Beats headphones not working.
Earbuds from other makers follow their own menus; the cross-brand guide for earbuds not connecting to your phone covers AirPods, Galaxy Buds, Pixel Buds and more. Every step below was checked on September 27, 2026 against Apple's Beats support pages, plus Google's and Microsoft's pages for Android and Windows.
Why Won't My Beats Connect?
Beats won't connect for six main reasons, listed in the order to check them:
- Distance or interference: more than 30 feet from the phone, or near other Bluetooth devices, microwaves or wireless routers.
- Not selected: the phone hasn't picked the Beats in its Bluetooth or sound settings.
- Flat or switched off: one of the two devices isn't charged or turned on.
- Not in pairing mode: the Beats aren't discoverable, so the phone can't list them.
- A broken pairing record: the phone remembers an old pairing that no longer works.
- Old software: the phone needs an update, and after that, the Beats need a reset.
How to Fix Beats That Won't Connect
These follow Apple's order for Beats; reset comes last. Fixes 3 and 5 add pairing mode and the update from Apple's Beats User Guide.
Fix 1: Move Closer and Away From Interference
Start with where the two devices sit:
- Bring the Beats and the phone within 30 feet of each other; that range is Apple's figure for Beats.
- Move both of them away from:
- other Bluetooth devices
- microwaves and wireless routers
- other electronics
Try pairing again from the new spot before you change any settings.
Fix 2: Select Your Beats, Charge Them and Turn Up the Volume
Apple's next checks are the sound settings and power:
- Choose the Beats as the audio device. On iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and select your Beats; on a Mac, pick them in the Output and Input panes of Sound settings; on a PC, set them as the playback and recording device.
- Make sure the Beats and the phone or computer are both charged and turned on.
- Play a track you downloaded to the device, not a stream, and raise the volume on the Beats and on the phone.
If your Beats show as connected but play nothing, step 1 is the check that matters.
Fix 3: Put Your Beats in Pairing Mode Again
Beats have to be discoverable before a phone can list them. Hold the right control for your model:
- Beats with a charging case (Beats Fit Pro, Beats Studio Buds +, Powerbeats Fit, Powerbeats Pro 2): open the case with the earbuds inside and hold the system button. Beats Solo Buds: hold the button above the logo on either earbud until a tone repeats.
- Beats Solo 4 and Beats Flex: hold the power button. Beats Studio Pro: hold the system button on the right earcup. Beats 360: hold the Power button on the left earcup until the status light flashes white.
Apple gives no hold time for pairing mode on these models. The full table, with Solo3 Wireless, is in our Beats headphones pairing steps for iPhone, Android and Windows.
Fix 4: Forget Your Beats and Pair Them Again
A stale pairing record blocks new connections until you delete it:
- iPhone: go to Settings > Bluetooth, tap the Info button next to your Beats, then tap Forget This Device.
- Android: open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth, tap the Settings button beside your Beats and choose Unpair, then confirm Unpair.
- Put the Beats in pairing mode (Fix 3) and pair them again.
On a Mac, Apple's steps are System Settings > Bluetooth, select your Beats, click the X, then choose Forget Device.

Fix 5: Update the Phone or Computer
Software comes before a reset:
- Update iOS, iPadOS, Android or Windows. Apple's Beats guide says to first make sure the device they're paired with is up to date.
- Pair again after the update. For the Beats' own software, see how to update Beats headphones firmware.
Fix 6: Reset Your Beats (Last Step)
Reset only when Fixes 1 to 5 haven't worked. After a reset, Apple says to pair them again to your Apple or Android device; the per-model buttons are in the guide to reset Beats headphones. Beats Pill has two resets: holding the center button for at least 10 seconds keeps your paired devices and custom name, while holding it with the volume down button for at least 15 seconds resets settings too.
Beats Not Connecting by Model and Device
A few models and devices add one extra check to the fixes above.
Beats Studio Buds + or Beats Fit Pro Won't Pair
Beats Studio Buds + and Beats Fit Pro enter pairing mode from the case: both earbuds inside, lid open, system button held. Charge first: with the case open near an iPhone, the screen shows the level of each earbud and of the case. The original Beats Studio Buds aren't in Apple's current Beats guide, which points earlier models to beatsbydre.com/support.
One Beats Earbud Won't Connect
Put both earbuds back in the case and hold it open near your iPhone to see each earbud's battery level; charge them if one is flat. If one earbud still won't connect, reset them with both earbuds in the open case, then pair them again. The guide to a left or right Beats earbud not working has the full steps.
Not Connecting to Android or a Laptop
Pairing mode works the same on every device; only the phone or laptop menu changes. On Android, supported Beats pair with Fast Pair, and any Beats can pair from Bluetooth settings, where Google's Android help says to tap Pair new device; see How to Connect Beats to Android. On a Windows 11 laptop, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices and select Add device; How to Connect Beats to a Windows PC has the rest.

Beats Not Connecting: Quick Answers
Why won't my Beats headphones connect to my phone?
Beats headphones fail to connect for four common reasons: distance or interference, an unselected device, a flat battery or a stale pairing. Apple's order is: move within 30 feet, select them in Bluetooth, charge both devices, forget them and pair again, then reset.
How do I force Beats headphones into pairing mode?
Hold the power button (Beats Solo 4, Beats Flex) or the system button (Beats Studio Pro); earbuds need the case open and the case's system button held. A reset also leaves them ready to pair: Beats Pill, for example, plays its pairing cue and flashes white after one.
Why did my Beats headphones suddenly stop connecting?
Two triggers fit a sudden change: a phone update or a stale pairing. Forget the Beats in Bluetooth settings, pair them again, and check the Update Tracker for a known issue with your Beats' firmware.
