When we get something wrong, we fix the page, say what changed and when, and list the correction here. Technology changes fast, and a fix can go out of date, so we check every report we get.

What Counts as a Correction

A correction fixes something that was wrong when we published it: a step, a menu name, a timing, a model list, a date, a source, or a link that led to the wrong page.

An update changes a page because something new happened, such as a firmware release or a change on the maker's support page. The old information wasn't wrong when we wrote it; it's out of date now.

Both show a dated note on the page. Corrections are also listed in the log below.

How We Handle a Correction

1. We check the report against the official source for your device (see how we verify fixes).
2. If the page is wrong, we fix it as soon as we've confirmed the right information.
3. The page gets a note in one format: the word "Updated", the date, and one sentence on what changed.
4. The correction goes into the log on this page with the date, the page, what was wrong and what we changed.

The same steps apply to every page on the site, including fix guides, Update Tracker pages and news pages. We never delete a correction note, from the page or from this log. If a correction itself turns out to be wrong, we add a new note rather than removing the old one.
