How to Pair Beats With an Android Phone (Pop-Up)

To pair Beats with an Android phone the quick way, wake them next to the phone and follow the pop-up:

1. On your Android phone, make sure Bluetooth is turned on in Settings > Connections.
2. Wake your Beats next to the phone:
   • Beats earbuds: open the case with the earbuds inside.
   • Beats Flex: press and hold the power button on the right control module.
   • Beats headphones: turn them on.
   • Beats Pill: press and hold the power button until a tone sounds and the light flashes white.
3. Wait for the setup animation to appear on the phone.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Apple calls this Fast Pair and lists five headphones that support Google Fast Pair: Beats Solo 4, Beats Solo Buds, Beats Studio Buds +, Beats Studio Pro and Beats 360. No animation? Use Bluetooth settings or the Beats app.

How to Pair Beats From Bluetooth Settings

To pair Beats from Bluetooth settings, put them in pairing mode, then pick them from the list. These are Google's labels:

1. Put your Beats in pairing mode (table below).
2. From the top of the screen, swipe down.
3. Touch and hold Bluetooth.
4. Tap Pair new device.
5. Tap the name of your Beats, then follow the on-screen instructions.

Menus vary by phone maker: Google says "some of these steps only work on devices with supporting hardware". No Pair new device option? Check under Available devices.

Pairing Mode for Each Beats Model

Pairing mode is the step that changes by model. These are the controls in Apple's manual pairing steps:

Pair With the Beats App

To pair with the Beats app, install it from Google Play, then add your Beats:

1. Tap Play Store, search for the Beats app, then tap Install.
2. Open the app and tap Connect.
3. Tap the connect notification, or tap your Beats on the Select Your Beats screen.
4. If asked, tap Agree to give the app access to your device.

Already installed? Tap the menu button, then Connect Your Beats. If you used the older Beats Pill+ app, Apple says to remove it first.

On a Samsung Galaxy Phone

On a Samsung Galaxy phone, try Apple's manual path: Settings > Connections > Bluetooth, tap your Beats in the list of devices, then tap Pair. We didn't find that path on a Samsung support page, so if your menus differ, use Google's Pair new device route.

How to Check Your Beats Are Connected

To check your Beats are connected, look for three signs:

1. In the Bluetooth list, your Beats show as Connected (Google's label).
2. A downloaded track plays in your Beats (Apple's troubleshooting prefers it to streaming audio).
3. In the Beats app, the battery level is shown below the image of your Beats.

If Your Beats Won't Connect to Android

Put your Beats in pairing mode again, then forget them and pair again: Google's route ends in Forget, Apple's in Unpair (Settings button next to your Beats). Apple also says to keep Beats within 30 feet of the phone, away from other Bluetooth devices, microwaves and wireless routers. If your Beats headphones won't pair after that, follow Apple's full order there.

What Works Differently on Android

Android handles three things differently from an iPhone:

• Settings live in the Beats app. Listening modes, Automatic Ear Detection and battery level sit on the Beats app's device screen (menu, then My Beats).
• Firmware comes through the app. An Update button appears in the Beats app when an update is available; Beats 360 update automatically by default. See the Beats headphones firmware update guide.
• Your Google Account carries the pairing. After Android setup, Apple says your Beats are automatically paired to your other devices on the same Google Account. Automatic switching (Beats Fit Pro, Powerbeats Fit, Beats 360, Powerbeats Pro 2) is for Apple devices on one Apple Account.
